One night at a London Theatre with Jeremy Irons
Embers review
Aweeesooooooomeeeeeee play!!! Damn, Jeremy Irons is so cool. In the second part he was helding a monologue (basically) and it was interesting all the way till the end. Even the English was quite understandable. The play has been somewhat criticised here but I would absolutely recommend it to anyone. Also the setup is cool, very cool and we even got upgraded to an awesome seat, so what more can you ask for? Yeah, well, maybe having a drink with the actors after the play, like last year in Koblenz, but you can´t even compare the venue, so... Random fact: The play was written in 1942 and just redeiscovered in 2002.
Let´s move on to the plot then:
Has anyone noticed that actually all the movies, plays or whatever, in this funny world we´re living in, evolve around some sort of love story? We even have gay lovers on the big screen these days, which at least gives us the love story thing from "another" angle, whatever... Isn´t it amazing? Well let´s move on...

Well, in this specific play, "EMBERS", the topics are love, friendship, some "unanswered" questions from the past and hell, even cheating!! Yeah man, quite hard story if you put yourself in Henrik´s (Jermey Irons playing a retired and quite wealthy Hungarian General) feet.
To put it short, Henrik hasn´t seen his friend Konrad (if you can call him a friend considering he had a romance with Henrik´s wife...) in about 40 years. Now, as Konrad visits him in his castle (during World War II), after such a long time, he obviosulsy demands some rather "rethoric" answers from his former "buddy". The spectator eventually finds out that Krisztina, Jeremy Irons´wife, had an affair with the visitor; that she almost left everything behind her to go far away with Konrad; that Konrad actually fled, so he didn´t have to face the whole situation and possibly in order to prevent Krisztina to leave with him; that as soon as Konrad found out, he never again spoke a word to his wife, not even when she was dying from some illness at a young age (this scene is awesome, when J. Irons tells his "friend" that Krisztina died, you can tell by Konrad´s face that he´s destroyed, absolutely, and that his conscience is picking him for having been such a coward during those days...; and that Konrad feels guilty for having renounced to his greatest love ever and for having destroyed his friend´s life (I would assume). And all this, amazingly, we get to know through Jeremy Irons...
Putting it clear: Konrad f*cked it!!! Big times!!! He pulled a "Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan" (in Basketball terms) which keeps hunting him more than 40 years later!!! ... and that to me is quite bad.
So, what would you do about love, fate, destiny...
