Weekend summary

Went out for some beers at Bonaparte and a couple of drinks at Harlem. Two weird names for pubs but it was fun still! First we had our beers du jour at the place with the French name. You gotta hate the name and the bartenders were far from cool but still, the venue was sort of OK... Then, Harlem was a small place with a DJ who could´ve easily been from Harlem himself. I went to ask for a song which leaded to the following exchange:

(note that he was playing "black music", lotsa rap and stuff like that)

Me: "Hey man do you have this one song, "Ghetto Supastar"?
"Random black DJ": NO! ( odd look on his face) ... why would I have it?

I just turned around and left. I mean, what the hell? Why would a DJ, playing RAP and similar stuff, have a song in his repertoire, which is exactly THAT type of music? Maybe because he´s a bloody damn DJ? Or because he had the same look on his face as ODB, who casually performs in this particular song? Poor attitude, I am telling you...

On Saturday I went playing basketball with some Cypriots and 1 Greek! After one and a half hours I was f***ed! Dead!! Nice game though. Now, the most interesting thing about the game was knowing how a foreign guy must feel on a team from a country which language he doesn´t speak!! You basically hear the other guys talking and swearing and can´t make sh*t of it... It´s always interesting to experience these things...

BASKETBALL: Now that we are talking bball, the Celtics just were loosing 101-86 to the Knicks with 25 s. to go, which is possibly as sad as it gets... At least Gerald Green is getting some minutes and proving he can score.
Barça and Madrid are tied in their Euroleague series, the tie breaker coming on Tuesday I believe. Barcelona just lost to Madrid in the Spanish League yesterday. That makes it two in a row in terms of losses to Real in 3 days. Not the best thing to boost your confidence before the most important game of the season!!! Before, you knew what you had with Barça, they dominated Madrid mostly for the past 5-6 years and when not, you knew they had few chances. Now, they are a mistery of a team. As inconsistent as it gets, never fully playing up to the expectations. Poor coaching. A mess!! They better turn this sh*t around on Tuesday!!!

GOLF: In the Augusta Masters it looks like Phil Mickelson is gonna win it all. Jiménez was close early on the Fourth Round (-4) but with one hole to go it looks like he will finish all even and 6 behind the leader. Olazábal could finish second, he´s 3 strokes behind Mickelson right now, with just 4 holes to go for the soon to be winner. Nevertheless, the Spaniard put on an impressive performance this last day leading the pack with a target of just 66, 6 below the course par. Now that I checked, this is also probably the best single round in the whole tournament this year!! Nice comeback José María!!

FOOTBALL: Interesting to see Khan removed from the German starting lineup for the World Cup. That´s served for some real turmoil in Germany, everyone complaining here and there. Bayern´s Hoeness heavily criticising Klinsmann as for the moment (German league is in a decisive phase and Bayern was facing Bremen in a clutch game the day after the news) not being the most appropriate for making this comment. But hey, what can you expect of a coach who lives in the States and coaches the Germans and comes back to his home country from time to time, watches some of the games on tape or satellite TV, if even that!?!?! That´s IS a JOKE!! Never would be allowed in probably any other country. And it´s not like the team is achieving good results. Actually, this is another good topic to discuss further, as the World Cup comes closer. :) It´s always nice to see the German Football team struggling.
The other interesting point came from Germany as well, where Bayern got demolished in Bremen (3-0 for the home side) and hamburg closed its gap to just 4 points behind Magath´s side with 5 games to go. That´d be a shocker if hamburg could still take away the lead from Bayern!!! No one counted them as title contenders, may I say except for myself, who put some money on them to win the Bundesliga at the start of the season, the spread being 18 to 1.
As for the Spanish League, just 6 games to go and Barça still leading the pace 11 points ahead of both Valencia and Real Madrid.

And that´s it for now.

Later everyone
