A DREAM COMES TO AN END: Villarreal OUT!!!

- 22:29 pm update -

No goals and Villarreal is out of the competition. Too bad, as they missed a last minute penalty by Riquelme. :(

I feel very sorry for the team and their fans. It was maybe a unique chances in a million years for this team. Too bad their ace, Riquelme, missed the penalty. He looked very fearful when he was approaching the penalty spot though and din´t not even look at Lehmann, who actually chose his side before the Argentinian star even kicked the ball. But Riquelme never looked up...

The Yellow Submarine definitely would have deserved being in Paris or at least going into overtime but it just was not meant to be their moment in history. It was a thrilling Semi-Final, poor play but lots of emotions and respect for each other, maybe too much, but hey, you can´t blame two newbie in a Champions League Semi-Final for that, can you? Here some quick notes on the game:

  • Best player: Sorín, really played with some "balls" and caused lots of confusion for Arsenal defenders. Also Senna was rock-solid despite missing two straight passes in the final minutes. But Sorín stood out for playing with character in a match that needed guys with just that!! He fought as hard as anyone, never minding a tackle and giving his every best, as well as contributing on offense. Props to the ultimate warrior!
  • Worst player: The whole Arsenal team, except for Lehmann but above them Guille Franco, terrible player. A nightmare of a striker.
  • Best Moment: The pre-penalty excitement...
  • Cool random fact: One blonde female Arsenal supporter in the pub. Man, not that she was hot or something... Oh gooooosh!!! And she enjoyed her team, suffered during some stretches and mantained composure through the whole match until the final whistle. The misterious woman. Just cute!!! (Shouldn´t evry girl(friend) just be as much into sports? Can we make a rule here? Should I held a speach in famous Speaker´s Corner on this matter? ... or collect signatures?) I am telling you lads, WHAT A YOUNG LADY. Let´s move one before I have to take a cool shower or jump into the Thames river to cool off...
  • Props to...: ... the Villarreal fans. Just amazing!!!

Congratulations to Villarreal for an extraordinary Champions League season. Riquelme said before the game that if the team didn´t qualify, no one would remember them. Well they sue will remember you, Román. It´s hard at times but you gotta be proud of what you´ve achieved.

Heads up!!!

BIG NIGHT for Villarreal today. Actually it's the biggest game of their lives and it's gonna be damn hard to knock the English side ouy. Anyway, my prediction:

Villarreal 2 - Arsenal 0 after extra time.

Gonna watch it in a pub probably crowded with Arsenal fans.

Shall the Spanish prevail!!!
